Background: Lack of safe drinking water, poor sanitation facilities and weak hygiene practices are prime contributors to disease in the Karnali zone. Villages suffer from a chronic lack of safe drinking water, which is the cause of waterborne / water-related disease (e.g. malaria, diarrhoea etc). Many people are using water from open water channels or pools of stagnant water, already infected by faeces and clouds of flies that are in each village.
Action: Construction /repair of appropriate water systems; working with communities and leaders to develop sustainable management system for water supply systems and training local of water committees in water system maintenance and management. |
Project Aims: 1. Construction of water systems to provide safe drinking water for up to 1,000 people; 2. Strengthened capacity of local communities and authorities to develop water and sanitation facilities, replicate the project elsewhere and advocate on behalf of local communities.
