Background: The district of Humla in the Karnali zone is one of the most remote and poorest areas of Nepal. Its population relies on subsistence agriculture but because of poor irrigation and farming methods households are able to produce sufficient food for only six months of the year.
Action: Building of irrigation systems in partnership with the community. Development of Irrigation System User Groups responsible for maintenance of systems, including training in management. Practical training in improved farming methods. |
Project Aims: - 5,020 beneficiaries in Jaira and Kalika VDCs have improved food security through community groups, irrigation systems and improved farming knowledge - By end of project, rural population in Karnali zone have improved long-term food security potential through project ongoing in Jaira and Kalika VDCs and increased capacity of local NGO to replicate project and promote good farming practice
