Raising awarenes on children’s rights through flower arrangements and facial paint

To celebrate the International Day of Children’s Rights Protection Mission East and local partner Bridge of Hope organized activities for children on June 1st in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.

The purpose was to bring all children together – with or without special needs. About 150 children came to join in on the fun. They all played together, made flower arrangements, danced, made paintings, gave interviews to Armenian television, and enjoyed each other's company.

Bridge of Hope introduced the children to their rights and the trees were decorated with posters with messages like "I have the right to an education".

The activities were a part of the Mission East project "A Healthy Start", supported by Danida, aiming at changing social attitudes towards the disabled in Armenia. In Armenia the disabled are often considered of less worth and children are often being kept at home without education, friends and proper health care.
