Helping the children of Nepal The Eternity Orphan Home ensures that the children have the best possible start in life - a secure loving home, food and clothing, schooling and health care. Many children have lost their partents in the long lasting conflict in Nepal.
Nepal is one of the poorest and least developed countries in the world. The people are struggling, not only with poverty but with ongoing political instability and violence. At 'Eternity' the orphans have a home where they feel safe and cared for, and they have uniforms and books and can attend school, and they receive medical care.
Mission East's partner, NASSO, also supports poor families through sponsorships for education, particularly aimed at benefiting girls. These children, coming from extremely poor families that otherwise cannot afford to send them to school, are provided with the necessary school materials and fees.
Mission East has supported NASSO since its inception in 1998. NASSO's activities reach out to the local population and act to help people lift themselves out of poverty. Mission East supports this work and aims to encourage the growth of NASSO as an organisation, so that they can assist even more people.
Apart from helping the children, NASSO's programmes are concentrated in livelihood support, including micro-credit and income generation activities to the poorest and low caste population. Organisations like NASSO are extremely important in a country like Nepal. But even local organisations experience difficulties from the current political situation. Our partner has sometimes been limited by restrictions put on travel. Meanwhile, many more local people are eager to take advantage of NASSO's activities, to have the opportunities presented by micro-credit and other forms of assistance. |
