Mission East chosen to be a leader in the fight against AIDS in Armenia
The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, which accounts for one quarter of the world's resources to fight AIDS, has partnered with Mission East in the effort to halt the spread of this epidemic in Armenia. Up until 2015, Mission East will be responsible for distributing funds for HIV/AIDS programmes in Armenia, and monitoring the work of local NGOs running these programmes.
Mission East introduced the first beehive to the village of Pumbak in Afghanistan in 2006. Although some considerable initial training was required to introduce the basic skills and concepts of beekeeping - starting from the difference between bees, flies and mosquitoes - the project is now a great success. So far, these buzzing insects have provided 125 of the most vulnerable families (approximately 800 people in total) with a new opportunity to improve their lives.
