Location
Humla (Mucchu VDC) and Kalikot (Mehalmudi, Sipkhana and Mumra VDCs) districts in the Karnali zone.
Project Background
Exceptionally heavy monsoon rainfall from 16 to 18 June caused major floods in Northern India and Western Nepal. The floods and landslides caused widespread damage leading to displacement of people, loss of life and destruction of homes and livelihoods. In Karnali the damage is very localised and therefore does not attract national or international attention.
ME in Nepal fears that the situation is worse than reported to date because police and army had not been able to reach many area and we still lack of confirmed information from a large part of the districts where we work (Humal and Kalikot).
Food Aid, it is very relevant to the Karnali situation where Food Security is a structural issue, and when such disasters occur, this is the very first need faced by the displaced population. Shelter assistance to people whose homes have been destroyed is important because of its wider role in the recovery of communities affected by disaster particularly regarding the interrelationship between shelter and livelihoods.
