Helping the children of Nepal

The Nepal Eternity Orphan Home ensures that children have the best possible start in life - a secure loving home, food and clothing, schooling and health care. Many children have lost their parents in the long lasting conflict in Nepal.

Nepal is one of the poorest and least developed countries in the world. The people are struggling, not only with poverty but with ongoing political instability and violence. At 'Eternity,' orphaned children have a home where they feel safe and cared for. They have uniforms and books and can attend school and receive medical care.

Mission East's partner, Nepali Avinash Social Service Organisation (NASSO), also supports poor families through sponsorships for education, particularly aimed at benefiting girls. These children, from extremely poor families that otherwise could not afford to send them to school, are provided with the necessary school materials and fees.

Mission East has supported NASSO since its inception in 1998. NASSO's activities reach out to the local population and help people lift themselves out of poverty. Mission East supports this work and aims to encourage the growth of NASSO as an organisation, so that they can assist even more people.

Apart from helping the children, NASSO's other programmes in the community concentrate on livelihood support, including micro-credit and income generation activities to the poorest and low caste population. Many local people are increasingly eager to participate in NASSO's activities and to have the opportunities presented by micro-credit and other forms of assistance.

Organisations like NASSO are extremely important in rural communities in a country like Nepal and their seemingly mall efforts can multiply to make a great difference.
