Project Background:

Background:

The main problem this project intends to address is the weak position of women to advocate for their rights and to participate in decision making processes in their communities, which is worsened by the lack of capacity of civil society and state actors regarding the inclusion of women and gender issues in development planning. The project will prioritise the lack of capacity of civil society (including women themselves) to contribute to the empowerment of women for inclusion and development.

The reason to address this particular cause is that apart from the direct addressing of gender based injustices, women's empowerment and inclusion in development will have a multiplier effect on impact, sustainability and development as a whole in the region.

Furthermore, the target groups will be enabled to claim other rights in the future, not only from a gender perspective, but for other rights that concern the communities, with women as fundamental actors of change. This will further extending the project's multiplier effect.

In addition the project partners believe that they can have a real impact in providing solutions to these problems, through the implementation of activities which are accessible to the communities that are necessary to generate the change in the women and other stakeholders and where they have the relevant experience and trust of the communities.
