The risk of a new earthquake is always present, but damages can be decreased if the houses are being reconstructed following earthquake resistant methods.

Mission East in Nepal: Relief aid and latrines must be accessible to everybody

Hygiene and inclusion of vulnerable groups is on the agenda in the emergency response in Nepal.

Mission East and partners do follow-ups on hygiene education in the remote villages, while materials for more than 1,800 latrines has been distributed so far. The construction of latrines secures accessibility for elders, women, children and people with disabilities. Furthermore, Mission East’s Gender and Social Inclusion Specialist has provided training for staff in how to include these vulnerable groups.

Relief workers had to dig their way through landslides to reach the thankful beneficiaries in Nepal’s remote villages.

The monsoon creates more and more challenges for the emergency response in Nepal. Several helicopter flights have been cancelled, and landslides are blocking the roads. Response teams have had to dig their way through landslides and walk for several hours to reach the remote villages.

Nepal situation report 8: Fear of child and woman trafficking

The emergency response in Nepal is proceeding, but security is still a concern for the population in the affected areas.

The response after the earthquakes in Nepal is proceeding but there is growing concern for trafficking of women and children. Poor weather conditions are also a challenge and the Mission East and Medair team was stuck in district headquarters Chautara for two days.

Latrines have been distributed to earthquake victims in Nepal together with tools to clear the ground.

As the emergency response after the earthquakes in Nepal is drawing to a close, Mission East and Medair have started focusing on reconstruction.

Nepal Situation Report 7: Earthquake Emergency Response

”We are so thankful! We now have protection against the monsoon”, says a Nepalese woman after receiving relief aid in the village, Gati.

On the16th of June, Mission East and Medair successfully distributed shelter recourses and household items out to 695 families in Gati village in the Sindhupalchowk district, north east of the Nepalese capital, Kathmandu.

Nepal Situation Report 6: Earthquake Emergency Response

A nepalese member of parliament praise Mission East and Medair for their relief effort.

Six weeks after the first earthquake hit Nepal, Mission East reached 15.000 people with relief aid. Exactly 4.129 families have received shelter and hygiene kits in five village districts. Mission East works together with Medair in the relief effort.

Annual Report 2014

2014 has been a year of disasters; landslides in Afghanistan, flooding in Nepal and a major humanitarian crisis in Iraq. Mission East has responded to these disasters on different scales but with a constant focus on providing immediate and efficient response to the most vulnerable.
